The “smultron” berry, a small wild strawberry. It is so Swedish that it appears in many summer songs and is a symbol for Swedish summer. It is traditionally picked and threaded on a straw like this. The berry tastes more than a strawberry (a more complex and intense flavor). It is summer in a little red package.
All parties are there and the bigger ones even have special days on which their leaders speak to the public. There are also many activists there and many activities going on.
Later this summer Visby hosts a medieval festival, and the town is a great place to go to for historical sightseeing in general. So it’s well worth a visit even for those without an interest in politics (but maybe you should choose a different week then) 😉
